Websites

Having a website is such an important part of business when in this industry as it can really show what type of photographer you are. This is where you will be able to really show your projects in full and not just have to chose specific images, however it is still very important to really filter out which work you will show on your website as it should be your best work and nothing less.

When going for a job interview, the employer/commissioners are quite likely to research onto your website beforehand, so your website really needs to stand out and be memorable, as they are likely to make a first impression before even seeing you face to face.

Things to have on your website:

  • Personal projects

  • Portraits

  • Commissions

  • About

  • Contact

Make sure to invest a lot of time into the design of your website, everything should be within 2 clicks away, and it should compliment each other, less can be more.

Try and review your social media, to make it look as professional as possible as you never know who might come across it and social media is such a big part of today’s society, you never know when someone important might see your pages.

This session has pushed me to write myself a list of tasks -

  1. Amend my website: - add more up to date images and just tweak design to make it more professional.

  2. Be honest with myself and ask my peers to give my website a critical review

  3. Look at other people’s Websites as well as Source for an idea of the standard of Photography.

  4. Review and update my social media

  5. Enter more photography awards and competitions!

For my website, I have made some decisions and change it a lot from what it was like before. I found that it was way to busy before now which made it quite confusing to the audience.

I decided to make the website centered, as I feel it is quite different to what you usually see, and to make everything very clean and easy to access. Everything is within 2 clicks away. My front page consists of a recent image I took of a project about Greek mythology and Athena, which if you click on it, it will take you to the other photos. I decided to add my CV onto my website so anyone who goes on here may see it and if they wanted to commission me, they would not need to ask for my CV, this would save them time and hopefully make me come across as organised. Each project has all the images on the one page which you can then click on to scroll through them at a slower pace, this is to cater to everyone’s preferences. Some may prefer tow whiz through whereas others may which to take their time.

I am quite happy with the look of my website now compared to before, i feel it is simple, calm and a good portfolio. It shows a good variety of my best work. It is also easy to add more work onto from here on.
